No. Responses are anonymous, tied only to the poll session, not to a name, email, or device. Instructor email is used only to sign in and to send occasional updates about the product.

Can I upgrade to All-Access later?

Yes. While your Pulse Check or Semester Pass is still active, we credit what you paid toward All-Access, and the credit is applied automatically at checkout. Upgrade before your pass expires, since the credit goes with an active pass. If something doesn't look right, email us at hello@pulsepointeducation.com and we'll sort it out.

Do learners need to download an app or create an account?

No. They scan a QR code or open a link, answer five questions, and they're done. No login, no app, no account.

How long does running a poll actually take?

About two minutes for learners to answer. The whole in-class experience, launch to debrief, is designed to take about ten minutes.

Does this work on a phone?

The learner side is built mobile-first, since that's how learners scan and respond. The instructor side is designed to run from a computer connected to a projector, since both the live results and the debrief are meant to be shared with the whole room, not just seen by you. You can sign in and run a poll from your phone, though that isn't the experience it was built for. In a clinical setting with no projector, a laptop or tablet works well. Your group can scan the QR code from the screen, and you can turn it back around to walk through the debrief together.

What's actually in a poll pack?

Five questions. The first four each look at one domain of emotional intelligence: self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, and relationship management. The fifth is an integration question, and it's the one your debrief is built around. Every question offers four answers. On the first four, all four sit inside that question's domain: three earnest, and one lighter, written for the learner who isn't ready to say something vulnerable, even anonymously, but still wants to take part. Each pack also comes with a collaborative debrief guide that gives you the language, talking points, and directions for the conversation that follows.

How does the debrief work?

When you're ready, press Start Debrief. The screen changes from live results to a guided conversation built around how your class actually answered the integration question. That question works differently from the first four. Each of its four answers maps to one of the four domains, so whichever answer the class lands on points at the domain the room needs most. The debrief follows that thread: an opening line that reflects the room back to them, then prompts to notice, reflect, and apply. When more than half the class lands on the same answer, the debrief speaks to that answer directly. When the room is split, you get a version written for a mixed room, which is its own useful conversation. The debrief isn't generated. Every version is written in advance for every possible outcome, and the app's only job in the moment is counting answers and picking which one you see.

Can I skip the debrief and just run the poll?

You can, and nothing stops you. The poll on its own just does very little for your learners. A poll tells you where the room is, which is useful to you. The conversation afterward is what makes it useful to them. Hearing that four other people feel the same way, or that the room is more split than anyone assumed, is where self-awareness and social awareness actually get built. Without the debrief, a learner answers five questions and nothing comes back. With it, the thing they were quietly carrying turns out to be shared. That's the part worth your ten minutes.

How should I introduce this to my class?

Name what it is before you launch it. Learners who weren't expecting to be asked how they feel will decide in about five seconds whether this is safe, so give them the rules up front. Something like this: “Before we start today, I want to do a check-in and see where everybody is. This is anonymous. I can't see who answered what, and neither can anyone else. There are no right answers, and one of the options is usually the honest, less polished one, so take it if it fits. This is just five questions. It'll take about two minutes, and then we'll spend a few minutes talking about what the room said.” The two things worth saying out loud every time are that it's anonymous and that no answer is wrong. The rest you can say however you say things.

Can I use this with an asynchronous class?

Yes. Launch a poll, copy the student link, and post it in your LMS with a deadline. Responses come in as learners answer. Come back any time before you end the session to see the results and open the debrief, then share it however your course runs, whether that's a screenshot, a short video, or a discussion post. The session stays on your dashboard until you end it, so leave it open as long as you need it.

Can I look back at past poll sessions?

Partly. A session stays on your dashboard, with its live results and its debrief, until you end it. Ending a session removes it from your dashboard, and there's no way back to it from inside the app. So for now, keep a session open while you still need it, and capture anything you want to hold onto before you end it. A real session history is what we're building next.
